Date

2025

A heartfelt portrait of Malcolm Saxton, a German-born musician and writer who fled Nazi Germany with his family in the 1930s. Using archive footage, the film traces a life uprooted by tyranny, a man who lost his home but never his voice.

I made this film to explore the personal and historical weight of Malcolm’s early journey, and to reflect on how the trauma of displacement continues to echo across generations. By juxtaposing shots of modern trains with archive footage of the Kindertransport, I wanted to draw a visual link between past and present — highlighting how ordinary infrastructure once played a role in extraordinary human stories. I shot the documentary using vintage lenses to evoke a more textured, timeless feel, which I felt complemented the reflective and intimate nature of the piece.
